Turning plastic back into fuel has been around since at least 2011. The Japanese company BLEST has videos showing the process, and travels around the world showing children how plastic is too valuable to just throw away.
This video will at first amaze you, and then make you wonder why on earth you haven't heard of this when it was created back in 2011.
The company running this is called Blest and is located in Japan. You can find more info on their website, and supposedly can purchase their machines (although no prices posted and no email response yet to my inquiry). Until I get prices it is hard to know if it is economically feasible at this point, or if it is simply a great tool for inspiring young minds to see waste plastic as a plastic oil field all around us waiting to be utilized. At one point I remember finding a link saying the 1KG machine was about $10,000, so was only really for educational use.
I would buy one for $10,000 USD!
That's still a decent chunk of money, but if I could order one of these for $10,000 + another $5,000 for sending it in a shipping container to wherever I am in the world, I would be willing to risk it to find out if it is real. I love this idea on so many levels and it just seems to make so much sense!
It reduces the plastic waste we find all around us in any part of the world
It localizes energy production and reduces the need to ship fuel around the world
It creates jobs locally for people that have very few options as you can pay them to collect waste plastic
From reading comments around the web every time I find a cool news clipping about somebody doing this around the world I can see I'm not the only one interested in buying one. I don't know how many anyone else is willing to spend, but if you're interested in knowing when I find one for this price go sign up and I'll contact you when I find it (no promises on how long that will take, but that's the point of this website so I'll be around until I do find it)
